Contemporary Art Comes to Greenville

I've been trying to get this blog off the ground for a while, and as it turns out, all I was waiting for was something cool and creative to get involved in. So here's what's shaking...

Last weekend marked the opening of the inaugural exhibit by a new contemporary artists' group in Greenville, SC who are going by the handle CAFfeine. I was lucky enough to be among the dozen artists represented in the portrait show "Pleased to Meet You," and by all accounts, the opening night and the artists' discussion (which took place the following Weds. evening) were a rousing success! Listening to my colleagues discussing their creative processes, their inspirations and reservations, and the challenges and breakthroughs they experienced while producing their portraits for the show was inspirational. And the thoughtful (and thought-provoking) questions from the viewers, as well as their encouraging comments and suggestions were almost enough to turn my normally cynical outlook sanguine.

It does an artist good to be reminded every now and then that there are others out there who value our creative natures.

There's much more to be written about this event and the amazing artists who participated in (and created and nurtured the project from dream into reality), and that will come soon. In the meantime, for TV, newspaper, and other press and for a great overview of the group and their endeavours thus far, check out the CAFfeine site.

(If you attended any of the "Pleased to Meet You" events, please post your thoughts/impressions here. I'd love to continue the dialog.)
